What is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is a licensed healthcare profession focusing on the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine, to alleviate acute and chronic pain and prevent future injuries. Doctors of Chiropractic, also known as DCs or Chiropractors, are primary care physicians specializing in total well-being. They primarily use a method called ‘adjusting’ to restore and improve joint function to promote a healthy nervous system.

An accurate diagnosis is a top priority for chiropractors, and they are also licensed and trained to provide soft-tissue therapies, lifestyle recommendations, fitness coaching, and nutritional advice. Approximately 50 million Americans receive chiropractic care every year. At Summit Integrated Health, we offer comprehensive chiropractic services and spinal manipulation techniques tailored to meet each patient’s unique needs and goals. Chiropractic Adjustment, aka Spinal Manipulation

A chiropractic adjustment, also known as spinal manipulation, is a type of manipulation therapy that aims to restore joint mobility and correct postural imbalances. It involves a safe and controlled force applied to any joint in the body, particularly the spine. Accidents, falls, poor posture, desk ergonomics, and poor sleeping positions can stress the spine and other joints, leading to misalignments that cause chronic pain and discomfort.

The purpose of a chiropractic adjustment is to address the root cause of the condition, not just the resulting symptoms. The ultimate goal of chiropractic care in Las Vegas is to restore correct function and mobility to the affected joint and normalize nerve function. Most chiropractic adjustments are painless and provide a feeling of relief. However, in cases of a recent injury, there may be discomfort due to irritation of inflamed tissue, which can be soothed with ice packs.

Types of Chiropractic Adjustment

Activator Method

The activator method is a gentle chiropractic adjustment technique that uses a small, hand-held, spring-loaded instrument called an activator. It is an excellent alternative for people who prefer not to be manually adjusted, and it delivers a low force impulse at precise points. An activator adjustment feels like a reflex test without the reflex reaction and is a quick, gentle thrust that can be used as an alternative to regular spinal adjustments.

Advanced chiropractic care in Las Vegas is especially suited for patients with bulging discs, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, joint inflammation, nerve conditions, and TMJ disorders. Children and seniors often appreciate the activator treatment for its gentle nature, and it is especially useful in sensitive areas, such as the arms, legs, jaw, and neck.

Drop-Table

The drop table technique, also known as the Thompson Technique, is a commonly practiced chiropractic adjustment method developed by Dr. J. Clay Thompson. It involves using a specialized segmented table that moves up and down in sections to assist in making an adjustment. The drop table can be lifted up a few inches and dropped down 1 to 2 inches to apply a low-velocity force to the restricted joint.

This technique is a great alternative for people who prefer not to be manually adjusted, as the force applied is gentle and assisted by gravity. The Thompson Technique almost always involves a Leg Length Inequality (LLI) test, which helps to determine postural distortions and is considered accurate within 3 millimeters. The drop table technique is especially suitable for individuals with chronic low back pain, kyphotic neck curve, and pregnant women.

Diversified Chiropractic

The diversified chiropractic technique (DCT) is a popular method of chiropractic care in Las Vegas that involves the application of a short, quick thrust over one restricted joint at a time. It is considered the most effective corrective technique and is often called “manual adjustment.” While there are dozens of chiropractic adjustment techniques, DCT is the most commonly used method and the one that most people think of when they picture a chiropractic adjustment.
